  17. <p>     He may be only 40, but Arthur Ochs Sulzberger Jr. already
  18. has all the qualifications to be publisher of the New York
  19. Times: 13 years at the paper as reporter, corporate planner,
  20. deputy publisher--and the fact that three generations of his
  21. family had the job before him. Last week Arthur the Elder, known
  22. as "Punch," passed the scepter to his son, who does not like to
  23. be known as "Pinch" ("Nobody uses it to my face twice"). The new
  24. publisher, who has a casual style and humor, will still report
  25. to Dad, head of the paper's parent company.
